Hey there, ever wondered where our help really comes from?

In a world that prides itself on self-reliance, asking for help can sometimes feel like a weakness. But let’s be honest, asking for help is actually a wonderful gift. So, who or what are we turning to for help today?

I’ve struggled with asking for help since I was a kid. Growing up, whenever I asked for help, I was often met with negative reactions, making me feel like I should’ve known better. This made me feel like a burden.

These experiences have shaped how I navigate life now. Even today, I find myself double- and triple-checking everything before asking for help. Why? Because I fear looking stupid. But the truth is, this pride in doing it all alone stems from my own insecurities.

These are the scars I carry from my upbringing. But here’s the good news – there’s hope. This doesn’t have to be my story forever. God has been healing my heart and teaching me to be more open about asking for help.

The key isn’t just about asking for help from people around me, although that’s crucial. It’s about recognizing that God is my constant helper and seeking Him in everything. Sure, it’s easy to call on God for the big stuff, but I’ve learned to seek His help in the little things too. If it matters to me, it matters to God.

By letting go of the need to do everything on my own, I’ve found true peace in God. He has lifted the burden of self-sufficiency from my shoulders, and I now rest in the knowledge that my help comes from Him. I always believed it was possible, but it never felt real until now.

Psalm 121:1-2
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

God, the Creator of heaven and earth, knows every detail of our lives. He understands our deepest needs and wants us to turn to Him. This assurance helps us be certain of where our help comes from. He is our Creator.

Romans 8:27 (NLT)
“And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.”

When we let go of our pride and the need to be in control, we can live in His abundant grace. Knowing that our help comes from Him means trusting that He knows better than we do. He understands our needs and timing perfectly. Place your trust in Him.

Have you been asking for help? Or do you find yourself carrying the burden of everything in your life? Take a moment to reflect on what you need to bring to God. Identify areas where you feel overwhelmed. Let what we’ve discussed here transform your view on seeking His help.

Am I the only one who thought my 20s would look vastly different?

Back in high school, I envisioned myself by the age of 25 with a loving husband, a cozy house, and a loyal golden retriever. Who wouldn’t want that idyllic picture? Yet, here I am, almost 23, and none of those dreams have materialized – not even the dog!

Entering adulthood comes with countless unspoken expectations. Between social media, friendships, family relationships, and the church, the pressure mounts. In these moments, I often find solace in remembering that none of these external things define my success – only Jesus does.

Despite this, I sometimes feel a pang of disappointment, wondering why things can’t align with my plans. I believe I would be happier if they did. But in truth, Jesus has something far greater in store for not just me, but for you as well. Here are three reminders that help me hold on to the truth of God’s goodness when I’m feeling doubtful.

Three Tips to Remember God’s Goodness:

Changing My Posture:
When I find myself spiraling in my thoughts, it’s crucial to remember I am not alone. Many others experience similar feelings; they just might not openly discuss them. If you’re reading this, know that you are pretty awesome, and maintaining a positive attitude might be the missing piece (Also, a fun fact: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson didn’t marry until they were both 31, and they’ve been happily married for 35 years. So, there’s always hope!).

Reading Scripture:
It’s essential to turn to scripture for comfort and guidance. God’s timing is always perfect, even if it seems slow to us. Verses like Proverbs 16:9 and Hebrews 10:23 remind me that Jesus cares deeply for us, ensuring that everything is prepared perfectly. Sometimes, the longest waits bring the most profound blessings.

A Better Me:
I view this waiting season as an incredible opportunity for personal growth. Everyone aspires to be their best self and lead a life they’re proud of. What better time to focus on self-improvement than now? This period is a divine gift, allowing us to prioritize our growth and become the person God intends us to be. Isn’t it wonderful that God loves us so much that He provides this time to develop self-care before we care for others?

Over the past six months, I’ve learned that God’s plan is truly greater than mine. When our future plans don’t align with reality, it often means our vision was not as magnificent as we thought when we were younger. I firmly believe that Jesus has better things in store for me and for you too. Take a moment today to thank Jesus for steering you away from your flawed plans and guiding you towards His perfect path.

Scripture References:

Proverbs 16:9: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”

Reflection

rust in God’s timing and plan, for He knows what’s best for us. Rejoice in the journey He has laid out, and embrace the growth and blessings He bestows upon us.
